Photographer unknownEva was the first teacher in this sod house school, School No. 3, District 37 of Williams County, North Dakota. She came from Minnesota to homestead and taught school during her first years, riding horseback to and from her claim.
In 1900, Eva married her neighbor, Fred Gotham, who had homesteaded in 1905. Eva and Fred continued to farm and to operate a coal mine in the Hanks area until Fred's death in 1938. Eva then returned to Minnesota. She lived there until her death in 1947.
