Abner O'Neal (1892)
Photographer unknown

In 1890, the Abner O'Neal began plying the Missouri River between Pierre, South Dakota and Fort Benton, Montana. In July, 1892, loaded with 9,000 bushels of wheat, the Abner O'Neal struck a snag near Painted Woods, north of Bismarck, and sank.

The cargo and steamboat were a total loss for its owner, the Mandan Roller Mill. The wreck reappeared in the 1950s during a period of low water.
